Swift Current Minor Baseball following Swift Current 57’s Re-Naming
Swift Current Minor Baseball (SCMB) President Kevin Patenaude announces historic organizational name change. “SCMB is proud to continue our strong partnership with our college-level team, the Swift Current 57s. Beginning in the 2017 Baseball Season all of our AA/AAA Rep Teams will be called the Swift Current 57s as well. We have had a very strong working relationship with the organization throughout the years and it only made sense for us to follow their lead in making this name change official. They continue to provide a ton of support through instructional clinics and mentorship to our coaches. So many of our young players look up to and aspire to be 57s one day making the decision to re-name, as they have, an easy one.”
“Changing our name from the Indians to the 57s was about being sensitive and respectful to all people.
We live in a different world and we as an organization felt we needed to be leaders and show our youth that leadership. One thing that won’t change is our passion for the game of baseball and the tradition of success in our minor ball programs” Patenaude added.
Mike Mutlow, president of the college-level team added, “We are honored to have minor ball follow in our footsteps again. The tradition of having the younger teams adopt the same name began in the mid-80’s with local baseball and the Indian’s name, then this past fall with the Broncos and minor hockey. We are glad for the solidarity and we look forward to continuing to work closely with minor baseball.”
The teams will adopt the new logo and color schemes in collaboration with the “Big Club” when they hit the field this season. While there is significant cost involved with this change SCMB is very fortunate to have engaged an excellent corporate sponsor to assist us with this historical change. Crescent Point Energy has generously donated $5,000.00 to assist with the purchase of all new uniforms for our Rep Teams. Patenaude noted, “Crescent Point Energy has stepped up again as a leading community ambassador by helping us outfit all of our Minor Rep Teams with new uniforms and we can’t thank them enough for this.”
