Hello for those of you who don’t know me my name is Tom Christianson and I am the Mosquito division head for Swift Current Minor Baseball. Once again the baseball season is around the corner. This year there will be 6 teams with 10 kids per team, with 2 to 3 coaches per team. We will be playing Tuesdays and Thursdays on diamonds #5 & #6 out at the Patterson complex as well the North and South diamonds on the West side of 19th Ave. NE. Baseball will be from 6:30 – 8 pm.
Evaluations will take place Tuesday April 28th at 6:30 pm at the Patterson complex. We will be doing a variety of drills that will test the skills of the kids. Please have your child(ren) there on time and ready to go with the appropriate gear. This will include running shoes, ball glove, helmet, and a water bottle. Bats are optional and minor baseball will be supplying some. Please register with me when you arrive for evaluation night. Coaches will pick the teams the following night and they will be in contact with you all to tell you which team your child will be on. League play will start on Thursday April 30th. I will email the schedule out to you all shortly.
As years in the past the mosquito division has entered a provincial team into the Regina AAA league. This year we will be having a provincial AA team and it will be coached by Kevin Patenaude and Jeff Bowers. This team starts league play May 1st and will be over at the end of July. They will practice 2 times a week instead of playing house league baseball. If your interested in your child trying out for this team please let the Kevin or Jeff know. See the post regarding the Mosquito Tryouts for information.
If you are interested in coaching or assisting another coach and never signed up to on your child’s registration please let me know. It would be nice to get a few more coaches signed up to help out the baseball season. If you are interested in taking a coaching clinic there will be one coming up. All the information is on the Swift Current Minor Baseball website. Keep checking this website for updates on the season.
I will be in touch in the next couple of weeks explaining how the season will be run and some important dates to keep in mind about some exciting things to come. I will email the schedule out soon. Please respond to this email so that I know you have received it.
Rally Cap players, coaches, and parents:
We will start with evaluations April 27th, Rally Cap will be from 5:45 to 6:45 as we are moving out to the SloPitch diamonds (1,2,9 & 10) and will have to share with the SloPitch league, their season doesn’t start until May 11th.
June 3rd will be skills night with the SC Indians again (at Mitchell Field), June 10th is scheduled for minor ball night at the Indians game, all teams will march out and be introduced on the field, and we are looking at June 17th to do a skills night, where the hats will be handed out. Hopefully the weather will cooperate for everything.
