18U AAA Tryouts

Dear Parents/Guardians, 

My name is Liam Choo-Foo and I will be the Head Coach of the 18U AAA Swift Current 57’s this season. Our team is planning to play in the highly competitive Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League again this year.  In non-Covid times the league played 30 games prior to play-offs, which are also our Provincials since this is a provincial league with a north and south division. By the time tryouts begin I will have our schedule in place. In order to play on the team there are commitments required: 

TIME 

  • Games every weekend from April 23 until playoffs ending July 24 
  • Easter is late so we will be practising through the holiday 
  • Some midweek games 
  • Practises every Tuesday and Thursday with some additional Wednesdays 

FINANCES 

  • League fees now include online streaming fees…$1850 
  • We will be bringing in guest instructors this year and giving them an honorarium (gift card) 
  • We will rent a van for midweek away trips 
  • Announcer…Colin Powers 
  • You can expect team fees to be around $900…hopefully less. 

SUPPORT 

  • Parents need to be involved…diamond maintenance, Gamechanger, scorekeeping, etc.  
  • We are hosting the Selects tournament this year for Baseball Sask 
  • This is the highest level of minor baseball played in the province, equal playing time is not something that will be guaranteed  

There will be two nights of evaluations with non-parent evaluators in place to help select the team.  There will be anywhere from 12-14 players selected.  If more than 12, then a player or two may have a specific role or be an AP, i.e.) pitcher only, which is something you need to think about. There will be a mandatory parent meeting prior to the 1st tryout session at 5:45. Players will be met individually after the last tryout and told if they were successful or not. Tryouts will not be instruction…strictly a showcasing of skills so they may finish early depending on the number of candidates.  Tryouts will be: 

Friday, April 8th 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm 

Thursday, April 7th Thursday tryout cancelled due to weather
